About Building Heart:

Join us on April 16th at Building Heart 2024 for a true taste of Heart to Heart. This year is different and Building Heart will likewise look and feel different. This year will not be a celebration, but it will be a chance to come together and a fundraiser to ensure Heart to Heart is resourced to continue our work which has never been more critical.

We know that the past five months have taken a toll on all of us here in Canada and impacted us in profound ways. Building Heart 2024 will be an evening dedicated to ‘filling up your cup’, being enriched by the power and beauty of community and connection, and a chance to come together to do something powerful. We know that it takes effort to continue making the choice to choose hope. We also know that choosing hope is indeed the only choice. Let’s make it a bit easier by doing it together. 

Building Heart 2024 will be in two parts. The first will be a real experience of community and connecting in the big living room atmosphere of the CSI Annex lounge. You’ll have the chance to eat, move around and connect with other attendees (we encourage you to connect with people you don’t already know), and for those that wish, to participate in a few activities in the spirit of Heart to Heart camp programming. Then, we’ll all head into an adjacent room for a chance to hear about the current lay of the land, our plans for the summer, and get some of the same tools and strategies our youth learn at camp that we think can help all of us navigate the challenges of the current moment. 

​Throughout the evening you’ll have the opportunity to support Heart to Heart’s work through bidding in the silent auction, and contributing to different aspects of our work in 2024. We will not be holding our lively Salaam-Shalom Fund-a-Need auction this year.
Building Heart is your annual chance to:
  • Hear directly from Heart to Heart campers, alumni and families about the impact you've had on their lives and communities
  • Learn what's been accomplished in the past year thanks to your support
  • Find out what we plan to achieve in the year ahead with your help and partnership​

COVID-19 
Community health and safety is our collective responsibility. If you are feeling unwell on April 16th we request that you join us online instead. We will be happy to provide you with a charitable receipt for the full cost of your ticket. If this is the case, please let us know so we can open a spot on our waiting list.

Online event
We've been holding Building Heart as an online event for the past number of years and are committed to ensuring that our supporters across Canada and beyond can continue to join this meaningful event. The online event will include all aspects of the in-person event with the exception of food and will run from 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm, EST. The link to tune in will be shared with you on April 16th.

How will Building Heart be different this year?
We have chosen to hold Building Heart 2024 in a new and different venue, CSI Annex, a space dedicated and designed for building community. We’ll be giving more time for community, connection and interaction, because at the end of the day, that’s the way for us to do the work of building hope. Please note that there will not be assigned seating this year (though there will be seating!).
We’ll also be creating opportunities for attendees to explore some of the same tools and programs that Heart to Heart participants engage in both to give you a window into their experience and because we know they can serve all of us right now as we navigate the effects of the past five months in our own lives. While Building Heart is still a fundraising event and we will be asking for donations at the event and for your participation in the silent auction, we will not be doing our Salaam Shalom Fund-a-Need (Live Auction).

How has October 7th and everything since impacted Heart to Heart’s current work and future outlook?
Our campers, alumni, parents, staff, and community of support have all been impacted (in different ways). It is not business as usual, nor should it be. The crisis is still happening and the ripple effects are not yet entirely known. We are in ‘tending’ mode, focused on caring for our existing community members, and protecting the foundations that we and they have worked hard to build for many years.
How are you supporting Heart to Heart alumni and families right now?
We have been and continue to focus on individual outreach and connection. Our staff and volunteers have served as the intermediaries and connection holders when direct contact is too hard or painful. We are also encouraging direct connection between alumni when possible and positive. We are now laying the groundwork for new programs and approaches that meet the moment.
What is the plan for this summer? How will it look different than past summers?
After careful consideration, we have decided to focus our efforts on our existing Heart to Heart community members, namely our alumni, who already have a strong foundation, relationships, and connection with the larger values and mission of the program. Rather than launching a new cohort of fourteen year olds, we plan to work with our alumni over the summer, likely in Canada to provide them with opportunities to heal, reconnect and regroup, recommit, take the conversation to the next level, and take the next step as leaders in their communities. We’ll also be inviting them in as partners in shaping Heart to Heart’s future work to meet the new reality, because if anyone deeply understands what’s needed, it’s them. Want to learn more?
